LABOR NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE - 2/1/2010
MMVTA is a non-operating transit authority. Meaning MMVTA contracts driver, mechanical and other maintenance services to a private company to provide transportation the MMVTA sets. Therefore, drivers who operate MMVTA buses are not directly employed by the Authority, and MMVTA’s current transportation contractor is First Transit, Inc.

MMVTA drivers and some other garage support employees, employed by First Transit, Inc., are unionized under the Amalgamated Transit Union.  They have voted to strike, but a work stoppage is not imminent.

Both sides have agreed to resume negotiations, and a state mediator is present. The MMVTA is confident the drivers, other unionized workers and First Transit are committed to reaching an agreement.

In the event of a work stoppage, notice will be placed on this site under a special sub section with more details and information as it becomes available.

MMVTA suggests riders to enroll in the MMVTA Rider Alerts program.  This program provides factual information regarding this issue and other important updates (such as detours or delays).  CLICK HERE to enroll in the Rider Alerts program or contact 724-489-0880.

6/14/09 - Bus Stop C riders must now use new Bus Stop D on East Busway
Starting on June 14, 2009 all MMVTA Route A buses leaving Downtown Pittsburgh will start pick ups for outbound service back to the Mon Valley at a newly created Bus Stop D on the East Busway. This will be a permanent change and Bus Stop C pick ups on the East Busway will be eliminated for the MMVTA. There will be construction work going on soon around the East Busway and the Port Authority has created a new stop with a shelter for other regional bus companies to use at the new Bus Stop D.  All other outbound stops along Smithfield St.  and at the Landmark’s Building at Station Square will remain unchanged.

2/19/09 - UPDATE - Charleroi Monessen Bridge Closure - Until further notice
PennDot determined that the Charleroi Monessen Bridge had to be closed immediately due to critical repair issues. The bridge will be closed for an unspecified amount of time.

Until further notice, we will be using the detours and schedules for Route A, Route B, Green Line and ValleyLINK East that are located HERE.

Starting on Tuesday, July 8 the MMVTA will make a new stop, when requested, in Downtown Pittsburgh at the corner of Smithfield St. and 7th Ave. to accommodate riders traveling to the Pittsburgh International Airport via the Port Authority's 28X.

When traveling back from the Airport, the 28X will drop off at 7th Ave. and William Penn Place near Verizon. Please utilize the MMVTA Route A stop at Smithfield Ave. at 6th Ave. near Burlington Coat Factory for travel back to the Valley.
